We now know a little Legends: Z-Athan we did a month ago. The biggest reveals at the Pokemon Presents were the real-time battling andstarter Pokemon, but both were almost overshadowed by the announcement ofPokemon Champions, which willchange the way we play Pokemon forever.
The trailer understandably held a lot back, but gave fans enough to chew on. I’ve already picked Totodile as my starter. It was interesting to see Hippowdon battling on the delicate Kalosian rooftops. But there was one genre of Pokemon mysteriously absent from the trailer: new Megas.

I was fine with that initially. I was just glad that the trailer confirmed we (almost definitely) won’t be gettingMega Incineroar. That thing wouldsuck. But after having some time to breathe, I want to know what Mega Evolutions we will be getting in the game.
Which Mega Evolutions Are Confirmed In Pokemon Legends: Z-A?
We know Megas are coming, but we don’t know which ones. Of theconfirmed Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, there are a bunch that already have Mega Evolutions. A few were shown in the trailer, and a few others appear in their non-Mega forms, although that’s yet to be officially confirmed. That said, we can likely expect the following Megas in Pokemon Legends: Z-A:
Looking through the list, there aren’t many confirmed Pokemon that don’t have Mega Evolutions already. The exception to this are the Gen 6 monsters, any of which could receive a Mega Evolution. Fans would be ravenous to see Mega Aegislash, Mega Talonflame, or Mega Florges, but I’m not sure they will receive the Mega treatment.

Promotional materials for the upcoming arc ofPokemon Horizonsalso hint at some new Mega Evolutions, so there could be some important clues found in the anime when it debuts next month.
Pokemon is always playing fast and loose with its lore, but why would Gen 6 Pokemon have Mega Evolutions in the past, but not in the present day of Pokemon X & Y? Maybe the Mega Stones were lost to time or something, but it feels unlikely to me.

Doing Some Mega Detective Work
Putting my Looker cosplay on, I decided to dive into the list of confirmed Pokemon and see if I could find any patterns. But first, some quick assumptions.
Zygarde could feasibly get a Mega Evolution. It’s the star of this game, so it makes sense. But is its 100 percent form already a form of evolution? It’s tricky to say.

I also believe that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the starters get new Mega Evolutions. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s more likely they get Kalosian forms, but I could see Mega Feraligatr, Mega Emboar, and Mega Meganium gracing our Switches before the end of the year.
Honestly, I just want to see the design for Mega Feraligatr.

Now those candidates are out of the way, I looked at the rest of the announced Pokemon for Legends: Z-A. Discounting monsters that already have Megas, that are mentioned above, and are originally from the Kalos region, I was left with a much shorter list:
We can safely discount Raichu and the Eeveelutions. I also don’t think that Game Freak will want to introduce an item called Dragoniteite, but most of the others are feasible recipients for a Mega Evolution.

I’d discount the likes of Garbodor, Emolga, and Watchog because they just have ‘filler Pokemon’ vibes (sorry). From this list, I think Mega Chandelure is the most likely, as it fits with the French theme of the Kalos region. Legends: Z-A’s industrial revolution could see Mega Chandelure evolve from candle-power to something much more modern. Could we see it become an Electric-type, perhaps?
Other than that, I’d love to see Mega Krookodile, especially if Feraligatr gets a regional form rather than a Mega. What can I say, crocodiles are cool.
Who knows if any Pokemon on this list will get Mega Evolutions. It’s incredibly likely that a bunch of as-yet revealed Pokemon will receive the Mega treatment. I think it’s also likely that we get new Pokemon revealedastheir Mega Evolutions. What if the next trailer opens with Mega Nidoking and Mega Nidoqueen, confirming both that they’re in Legends: Z-Aandthat they’re getting Mega Evolutions befitting Kalosian royalty?
We don’t know a lot about Pokemon Legends: Z-A at the moment. You know nothing more about the game than you did five minutes ago, before you read this article. But you might have a few ideas for Megas you want to see. After all, half the fun of a new Pokemon game is the speculation before it releases.
