The Sniper Elite games have always been at the forefront of accurate bullet ballistics. Combined with the classic WW2 settings, the series (and their Zombie Army spin-off) have been a constant go-to for those who love sniping games.
However,Sniper Elite: Resistancegives the series' go-to protagonist, Karl Fairburne, a well-needed break from war. Instead, it brings in a new face to lead the charge against the nazi army. But, who exactly is Harry Hawker, and how does he fit into the Allied attempt at stopping the German war machine?
Who Is Harry Hawker?
Harry Hawker is a British sniper and recon expert. He is sent to France to help the resistance fighters fight back against the invading nazis and their Vichy government in 1944.
What Are His Goals?
As a commando of the British Expeditionary Force, Hawker is tasked with not only making contact with the French resistance, but also helpingtake down key Gestapo membersandhunt down intel on the supposed nazi superweaponin development.
What Is He Good At?
Like Karl before him,Harry is a master of the scoped rifle, able to take out targets from an impressive distance.He is also skilled at the other key facets of an espionage expert, from stealth, booby traps, and scouting.
He is more than well-equipped to take out nazis at close quarters too, with skills with variouspistols, sub-machineguns, explosives, and shotguns. Not to mention the various hand-to-hand combat skills that he uses more often.
He also seems capable of applying various field medical equipmentlikebandages and first-aid kitsat short notice, and is comfortablemodifying his weapons with items at workbenchesfound in the field.
Where Has He Been Deployed?
Players of the previous games will recognize Harry as an optional character that you can control in multiplayer and non-campaign PVE mode.
He has appeared in Sniper Elite 3, where he helped take on nazisthroughout Africa, Sniper Elite 4, wherehe was deployed in Italy,and also Sniper Elite 5,wherehis tour in France first began.
It is hinted at through an in-game dialogue that the timelines of Resistance and Sniper Elite 5 overlap, as Harry references Karl fighting against the nazis to stop the Kraken super-weapon.
How Does He Know Karl Fairburne?
Both Karl and Harry have and do work for the British militaryas snipers and commandos.They being part of the same teammeans they probably are at least trained in the same places.
Due to their profiles and line of work,we don’t know much else about their relationship.
As well as being a commando, Hawker also technically holds the rank of Captain. Which, interestingly, makes him a superior officer to Karl (Karl is referred to as a lieutenant in most Sniper Elite games).
