To understandhow Tophat was created, we need to look atBig Challengesfirst.Big Challenges lived alone on the island,butKikiandLalanoticed thathe was growing lonely.To combat this,the duo created Tophat.
This isn’t just a fun name though; Tophat actuallystands for Tons Of Playful Hugs And Thrills.Tophat was created as a friend, which is why his biography description simply reads’A mysterious friend and a supercomputer found on the island'.
Tophat will mention to you that Big Adventures Park (the island) wasbuilt ‘practically before time itself’.Just how old is Big Challenges?
Tophat & Big Challenges
Together, Tophat and Big Challenges were best friends. During the rescue of Big Challenges, Tophat says ‘we became best buddies and partners. It was written in the stars’. This is quite touching, as Kiki and Lala (who are two twin stars)created him simply to be friends with Big Challenges.
As best friends, Tophat and Big Challenges created all sorts of fun structures and activities around the island. Tophat even mentions thathe is the engineer, while Big Challenges is the dreamer.By creating ‘fun structures’, we meaneverything that you’ve encountered!This includes Gemstone Town, the Haunted Mansion, andmost things requiring Power Crystals.
Big Challenges had, well… bigger goals though. He wanted a ride on Icy Peak, butTophat recognized how dangerous this was and sealed the entrance.Big Challenges still wanted to ascend the mountain though, so as he climbed,Tophat waited at the base.Unfortunately, a storm rolled in,pushing Tophat off the base.
In the quest A Challenging Rescue, you’ll need toencourage Tophat to climb Icy Peak since he is scared.
Where Did Tophat’s Memories Go?
The simple answer to this is that as he was knocked off the mountain,Tophat’s memories were scattered.The Power Crystals themselves contained his memories, sowhen they were scattered across the island, his memories went with them.
This explains why Tophat appears after you previously completed quests that required you to find Power Crystals. With the crystals placed,he would regain bits of his memories;this is what happens once you complete quests involving them.
After you complete A Challenging Rescue, Tophat willregain all of his memories and be reunited with his best friend!At this point, the two won’t be as mysterious.
