Summary
An F&Q posted on theForza Horizon 5website has confirmed that thePS5port of the game will still require aMicrosoftaccount to sign in, sparking worries about its playability and preservation in the future.
If there’s one thing that we learnt about gamers over the past year, it’s that theyreallydon’t like having to create multiple accounts to play games. That’s been an issue for PC players for a while withEpicandUbisoft’s launchers, but it’s started to come back infull force now that multiple consoles are embracing sharing their first-party releases.

The first big case of this wasHelldivers 2on PC requiring a PlayStation Network account to play, resulting in the game getting its user score tanked. PlayStation hascontinued to make this mistake since then before eventually basically giving up, but it seems that Microsoft hasn’t quite learned from that yet.
You’ll Need A Microsoft Account To Play Forza Horizon 5 On PS5
As reported by Push Square, an F&Q has recently been posted on the Forza Motorsport website regarding Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 port. We’ve already learned some worrying things about Horizon 5 in the past few weeks, such as it not having a disk release, but the F&Q has a doozy when it comes to account linking.
According to the site, anyone playing Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 is going to need a Microsoft account in addition to their PS5 one, a process that will start when they boot up the game. You’ll need to link your Xbox Live account to your PSN to play Forza Horizon 5 at all, which could spell issues in the future if that linking is ever deactivated.
Sea of Thieves also requires a Microsoft account to play on PS5, but other games like Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment don’t need one. It’s a little confusing which games need it, basically.
The F&A does note that linking a Microsoft account to PSN is “on a title-by-title basis” and “permanent”, meaning that players can unlink their PSN account for Forza Horizon 5 but will only be able to relink to the original Microsoft one. Sounds confusing, right? That’s because it is.
Combine this account requirement with the fact that Forza Horizon 5 is going to be digital only on PSN (a worry since Forza games have been delisted before), and it does seem like a big worry for preservation. It’ll be entirely up to Microsoft to keep the game up, and considering the woes of licensed music, it’s anyone’s guess how long that can be done for.
