Summary

Xboxhas announced a new Developer Direct showcase that will take place on January 23 that focuses onDoom: The Dark Ages,South of Midnight,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a brand-new surprise game.

Even though we’re only just over a week into 2025, it seems that gamers have no time to rest, as we’ve already got a bunch of upcoming releases and events to look forward to. Surprisingly, the first of the big three to make a big announcement so far is Xbox,as it just confirmed a new Developer Direct showcase is happening in two weeks on January 23.

For those unaware,Developer Directs are basically Xbox’s version of Nintendo Directsor PlayStation’s State of Play and give the publisher its own space to share news about its upcoming titles. In previous years,Xbox’s Developer Direct has given us the announcement of Hi-Fi Rush, gameplay for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and a whole bunch more.

Xbox’s First Developer Direct Of 2025 Is Coming In Two Weeks

This year’s Developer Direct is shaping up to be quite a big one, as it already has a stacked lineup of reveals. The biggest of these is Doom: The Dark Ages, which will get a “full game reveal” during the event. My personal favourite of the bunch, South of Midnight, will also get a deep-dive that I’m hoping ends up in some kind of release window announcement.

Next up on the docket is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,a promising RPG that’s been turning heads since it was first revealed. Since we know that’s not far from release, we could get a release date or window for this one too. The showcase will also feature a visit to “a surprise location to see another studio’s brand new game”, meaning we’re in for an interesting reveal.

Although the wording suggests the surprise reveal is something new, there have been a lot of rumours flying around recently about a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Could this be where we see it?

The Developer Direct is exactly two weeks away from today andwill debut at 10am PT, 1pm ET, and 6pm in the UK on all of Xbox’s usual channels. Start getting your bets in on what Xbox has planned for its big surprise game, and whether we’ll get release dates for some of the titles being shown.
